A Season in Fragrance : Five for Winter

A City on Fire by Imaginary Authors

NOTES : CADE OIL, SPIKENARD, CARDAMOM, CLEARWOOD, DARK BERRIES, BURNT MATCH

A similar opening to Union's Celtic Fire but flintier, and all-round more complex.

If you enjoy a narrative perfume that reveals itself gradually, this is for you. A spicy smoke opening; fruity middle; and woody, labdanum finish. Very unique.

Aleksandr by Arquiste

NOTES : ALDEHYDE, BIRCH LEAVES, NEROLI, VODKA, COGNAC, IRIS, RUSSIAN LEATHER, VIOLET LEAF, BIRCH TAR, FIR BALSAM, MUSK, OAK MOSS

A frosty scent that's very wearable.

Crisp and boozy violet - leather notes are minimal on me, however.

Craft by Andrea Maack

NOTES : ALDEHYDES, ELEMI, COLD METAL, ICE, CEDAR WOOD, PATCHOULI

If you favour a perfume that revels in the stark winter landscape, this one is for you.

It's quite uncompromisingly desolate - no sweetness - with an industrial quality that I enjoy tremendously.

Jeux de Peau by Serge Lutens

NOTES : BAKING BREAD, SPICES, LICORICE, APRICOT, IMMORTELLE, SANDALWOOD, WOODS, AMBER

If, on the other hand, you favour something cozy when it gets cold and dark, this 'baking bread' scent would be my pick.

A sophisticated and surprisingly savoury gourmand. Smart but inviting.

Snow by Demeter Fragrance

NOTES : OZONIC, AQUATIC, DUST, EARTH

My favourite of all the Demeter ozone fragrances, this has a rather unique, vegetale opening; becoming light and clean on the drydown.

Faintly falling. This captures a meditative quiet - the stillness of snowfall.
